The national route for a medicine that will be sold only in Spain. The Spanish medicines agency (AEMPS) checks the file, assesses quality, safety and efficacy, and must notify its decision within 210 calendar days of a valid application, not counting time the applicant takes to answer questions. A medicine for the Spanish market only, that is not already authorized or under assessment in another EU member state for the same holder and does not need the EU centralized procedure. Otherwise the mutual recognition or decentralized procedure applies.
The authorization and registration, full dossier is €17,073 for 2023 onward.

Committee opinion (optional); 7. Hearing on a negative assessment (if any) (15 days); 8. Decision and entry in the register; 9. Post-authorization duties.
Outcome: An authorization resolution and entry in the Spanish medicines register, or a reasoned refusal. Valid for 5 years.
