What is wrong
TMC Group, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Ameritrans E-Series buses manufactured August 1, 2006, through July 31, 2012. These buses are equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift with an optional armored pendant cable. The armored cable may be positioned such that it does not clear the wheelchair lift.
What can happen
If the cable does not clear the wheel chair lift it may contact the power lug and if it does not have a nonconductive cover, or it has an improperly installed non-conductive cover, then a short circuit may occur that could result in a fire.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Ricon will send owners a supplemental cover kit and instructions free of charge. A notice to owners was mailed by certified mail on July 5, 2013. Owners may contact Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 or by e-mail at recall.admin@wabtec.com.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
