Recalls of products sold to consumers, by hazard and product type, with the latest ones, are on the consumer product recalls page. Listed companies show their recalls in the Risk & Compliance tab of their stock page, for example Ford or Tesla.
A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data, updated daily.
DataPorium shows every US vehicle safety recall since 1966, crash test star ratings since model year 1990 and the number of safety complaints vehicle owners filed since 1995, from official public data, with recalls up to Oct 6, 2026. Every make has its own page, and so do its models with real data, with recalls by model year, star ratings, the monthly complaint trend and the parts owners complain about most.
A recall starts when a maker, or the safety regulator, finds that a vehicle or part does not meet a safety standard or has a safety defect. The maker must tell owners and fix the problem for free, by a repair, a replacement or a refund. Each recall lists the makes, models and model years it covers, the number of vehicles that may be affected, what is wrong, what can happen and the fix. Some recalls tell owners not to drive the vehicle, or to park it outside, until it is repaired. Recalls of vehicles are counted here; recalls of tires, child car seats and other equipment sold on their own are counted apart.
Crash test ratings run from 1 to 5 stars for the overall score, frontal and side crashes and rollover; more stars mean better protection. Ratings from model year 2011 on come from newer, stricter tests and should not be compared with older ones. Owner complaints are counts only: a complaint is the owner's own account and is not verified, and models that sell more get more complaints. The same numbers are in the DataPorium API (/recalls, /recalls/totals, /vehicle-ratings and /vehicle-complaints) and updated daily.
