What is wrong
East Manufacturing Corp. (East) is recalling certain 2016-2018 Frame Dump trailers built with a pintle hook or brackets for the future installation of a pintle hook. Cracks may develop in the cross member that the pintle hook is connected to, possibly resulting in the cross member failing.
What can happen
If the cross member fails, vehicle handling would be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
East will notify owners, and dealers will weld any cracks and install reinforcing plates to the cross member, or replace the cross member, as necessary. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2017. Owners may contact East customer service at 1-330-325-9921.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
