What is wrong
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, "OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION." THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITHOUT THE PROPER AIR BAG LABELING ON THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG COVER.
What can happen
THIS LABEL INFORMS THE FRONT PASSENGER OF THAT SEATING POSITION'S AIR BAG AND THAT CERTAIN SAFETY PRECAUTIONS NEED TO BE TAKEN BY THE SEAT'S OCCUPANT.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A "SRS AIR BAG" WARNING LABEL AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 25, 2001. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
