What is wrong
Hendrickson USA. L.L.C. (Hendrickson) is recalling certain CONNEX ST steerable suspension and axle systems with TSE brake actuators. The washers used for mounting the actuators may fracture, allowing the actuators to loosen, potentially reducing the braking ability.
What can happen
A reduction in the braking performance can lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Hendrickson will notify the affected trailer manufacturers, and TSE Brakes will replace the flat mounting washers, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
