What is wrong

What can happen
Improperly heat treated tow hooks may unexpectedly break during vehicle recovery, resulting in the towed vehicle separating from the towing vehicle while in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash without warning with accompanying vehicle damage, injuries or deaths.

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the suspect tow hooks, free of change. The safety recall ibegan on December 18, 2012. Owners may contact Navistar at 1-800-448-7825.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
