What is wrong
KONI NORTH AMERICA (KONI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN AFTERMARKET, 30-SERIES, SHOCK ABSORBERS; PART NUMBERS 30-1720 AND 30-1721. THE EYE LOOP WELD TO THE EYE BASE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH WELD PENETRATION AND COULD RESULT IN A FAILED WELD.
What can happen
THE SHOCK EYE COULD SEPARATE FROM THE BASE OF THE SHOCK CAUSING FAILURE OF THE SHOCK ABSORBER. THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
KONI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE SHOCK ABSORBERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 19, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT KONI AT 1-800-209-3350.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
