What is wrong
MEDIX IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2011 TYPE II AMBULANCES, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1, 2007, THROUGH NOVEMBER 16, 2011. DUE TO OVERSIGHT, MEDIX INSTALLED SEATS IN A REAR FACING POSITION IN THE PATIENT COMPARTMENT WITH A TYPE I (LAP BELT ONLY) SEAT BELT CONFIGURATION. THEREFORE, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 208, OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.
What can happen
USE OF A NON-CONFORMING SEAT BELT MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
MEDIX WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND WILL REPLACE THE SEAT BELT AS REQUIRED TO A TYPE II DESIGN (LAP AND SHOULDER BELT) FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MEDIX AT 1-574-266-0911.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
