What can happen
If the castellated nuts are not properly torqued, the tie rod may not be adequately secured, resulting in a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.

Meritor will notify the affected vehicle manufacturers who will notify the vehicle owners, and their dealers will inspect the torque on the tie rod end nuts, replacing the damaged components, as necessary, free of charge. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
