What is wrong
ALL 4" ROUND LED 3 FUNCTION TAIL LAMPS, MODEL NUMBER STL-45RK, MANUFACTURED BY OPTRONICS AND SOLD AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT. THE LED LIGHT OUTPUT IS INSUFFICIENT TO MEET THE THREE LIGHTED SECTION, TAIL LAMP REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.
What can happen
THE LED PLACEMENT DOES NOT SPREAD OUT THE LIGHT OR DIRECT THE LIGHT IN A WAY THAT GENERATES ENOUGH ILLUMINATED LENS AREA. APPROACHING VEHICLES MAY NOT SEE THE VEHICLE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.

OPTRONICS WILL NOTIFY ITS OWNERS AND REPURCHASE THE LAMPS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 20, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT OPTRONICS AT 918-683-9514.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
