What is wrong
SAF-Holland is recalling certain ULX40 trailer axles, part number 1004300026950. The wheel end hubs on these axles may have insufficient lubrication levels, which could cause the hub bearings to fail.
What can happen
Hub bearing failure could cause the wheel hub assembly to detach, causing a loss of stability and control, and create a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
SAF-Holland will provide instructions to owners, to inspect the wheel hubs and add the proper amount of lubricant as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 25, 2022. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
