What is wrong
Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company (HSM) is recalling certain Summit-brand driver and front passenger seat accessory seat covers sold for use in RAM ProMaster, Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter vehicles. The outside edge seam of the seat cover may not open up as designed, possibly affecting the deployment of the seat-mounted air bags in the event of a crash.
What can happen
In the event of a crash, if the seat-mounted air bags cannot deploy as intended, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Hickory Springs will inspect and remove the defective seat cover and replace it with a new seat cover, free of charge. The recall began on May 31, 2017. Owners may contact HSM customer service at 1-800-438-5341.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
