What is wrong
Toyo Tire Holdings of Americas, Inc. (Toyo) is recalling certain Open Country and Extensa tires. Please see the attached tire chart for a list of all affected sizes. The tires may have been produced using the wrong mold, which can result in the tread or tire sidewall detaching.
What can happen
Tire tread or sidewall detachment can result in a sudden loss of tire pressure, increasing the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Dealers will inspect the tires for the DOT code and mold number and, if necessary, replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 13, 2023. Owners may contact Toyo's customer service at 800-442-8696.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
