What is wrong
TRIMARK IS RECALLING CERTAIN DOOR LATCHES WITH PRODUCT DATE CODES 23A THROUGH 51A INSTALLED FOR USE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON CERTAIN PIERCE MANUFACTURING EMERGENCY VEHICLES. THESE LATCHES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE TRANSVERSE PULL STATIC LOAD REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO 206, "DOOR LOCKS AND DOOR RETENTION COMPONENTS." THE LATCHES MAY "POP" INTO THE SECONDARY LOCKING POSITION.
What can happen
IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE DOOR WOULD NOT HAVE PRIMARY CLOSING SECURITY WHICH COULD POSSIBLY LEAD TO INJURY OF THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
TRIMARK IS WORKING WITH PIERCE TO NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DOOR LATCHES FREE OF CHARGE. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TRIMARK TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-447-0343.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
