Source: DataPorium Banking, quarterly reports of US banks for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 [1][2]. B = billion US dollars. Share of US deposits = the bank's deposits divided by the deposits of all US banks in the data ($20.88 trillion). U.S. Bank's parent, U.S. Bancorp, is written out because the data do not link a ticker to it.
How concentrated are US bank deposits?
US banks held $20.88 trillion in deposits on June 30, 2026, up 5.5% from $19.79 trillion a year earlier [1]. The four largest banks held $8.05 trillion of that, or 38.6%; the ten largest held $10.86 trillion, or 52.0%; and the 25 banks in the table held $14.01 trillion, or 67.1% [1]. The remaining 32.9% was spread across more than 4,000 other banks: the data count 4,313 banks at the end of June 2026, down from 4,494 a year earlier [1].
The gap between the top four and everyone else is large. JPMorgan Chase Bank alone held more deposits than the six banks ranked 5th to 10th combined ($2.80 trillion), and 5.2 times as much as U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest [1][3]. Wells Fargo and Citibank are almost tied: Wells Fargo had $15.9 billion more in deposits, while Citibank had more total assets [1].
On June 30, 2026, the four largest US banks held 38.6% of all US bank deposits, and JPMorgan Chase Bank alone held 13.5%.

Mergers explain the biggest jumps
Pinnacle Financial Partners (PNFP) and Synovus completed their merger on January 1, 2026, and the two banks merged on January 2, 2026 [6]. Pinnacle Bank's deposits rose from about $45 billion to $102.2 billion over the year [4]. Fifth Third Bancorp (FITB) completed its merger with Comerica in February 2026 [7], and Huntington Bancshares (HBAN) closed its merger with Cadence Bank on February 2, 2026 [8]. Those two banks moved up to 14th and 15th place by deposits [1][5][9].
Growth without a merger
Other fast growers did not report a bank merger in the period. SoFi Bank, the bank of SoFi Technologies (SOFI), grew deposits by 57.4% to $46.8 billion while reporting 4 offices [2]. Goldman Sachs Bank USA grew 22.3% and State Street 12.9% [2]. Among the four largest banks, Wells Fargo grew fastest, by 11.8%, while among the 25 largest, TD Bank's deposits fell 5.3% and BMO Bank's 2.6% [1].
How we ranked the banks
The data are the quarterly financial reports (Call Reports) that every FDIC-insured bank files with federal regulators, as published in DataPorium Banking [1]. Each row is one bank charter, not a holding company: Morgan Stanley, for example, owns two of the 25 largest banks, Morgan Stanley Bank ($278.9 billion in deposits) and Morgan Stanley Private Bank ($211.7 billion), which together would rank eighth [1]. Credit unions are not included; they are ranked separately.
- Deposits: total deposits held by the bank at the quarter's end, as reported.
- Total assets: everything the bank owns, including loans, securities and cash.
- 1-year change: June 30, 2026 compared with June 30, 2025, for the same bank charter, so a merger adds the acquired bank's deposits.
- Offices: the number of offices (branches and the main office) in the bank's report. Banks that serve customers online or through brokerage accounts, such as Charles Schwab Bank, Ally Bank and American Express National Bank, report a single office.
Bank reports appear about six to eight weeks after the quarter ends, so June 30, 2026 is the newest quarter available in mid-October 2026 [1]. Each bank's history is on its own DataPorium page, for example JPMorgan Chase Bank [3]; the bank screener ranks all 4,000-plus banks on any measure [2].
