How much listed companies spend on federal lobbying
Quarterly reports of 2025
Companies file lobbying reports with the US Congress every quarter, due 20 days after the quarter ends, so the newest quarter is still coming in. When a company files its own report, its total is the in-house spending it reports, which already includes what it paid outside lobbying firms, plus outside firms hired for separately named units such as a subsidiary. Otherwise the total is the sum the outside firms received. Amounts under $5,000 are not reported. Based on official US government data since 2015, updated daily.

Companies and lobbying firms must file a report with the US Congress every quarter in which they lobby the federal government. The report shows the client, the amount spent or received, the issues and the government offices contacted. Reports are due 20 days after the quarter ends, and amounts under $5,000 are not reported.
When a company lobbies with its own staff, it files its own report with its total lobbying expenses, and that total already includes what it paid outside lobbying firms. So that the same money is not counted twice, a quarter's total is the company's own report when it files one, plus outside firms hired for separately named units of the company, such as a subsidiary. Otherwise the total is the sum the outside firms received from the company.
Each report lists general issue areas, such as taxes, defense or trade, with a short description of the bills and topics. A report gives one amount for all the issues it lists, so spending cannot be split by issue. You can still find every report that lists an issue.
