What is wrong
THE LOWER STEERING COLUMN LINKAGE HEAT SHIELD CAN COME IN CONTACT WITH A BRAKE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PIPE MOUNTED TO THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY, EVENTUALLY RESULTING IN A HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK.
What can happen
IF A HYDRAULIC FLUID LEAK OCCURS, WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING LOSS OF FLUID AND LOSS OF SYSTEM PRESSURE WILL BECOME ILLUMINATED. FRONT BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS WILL BE LOST, ALTHOUGH REAR BRAKING WOULD REMAIN UNAFFECTED.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
DEALERS WILL REPOSITION THE AFFECTED HYDRAULIC PIPE AND REPLACE ANY DAMAGED PIPE.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
