What is wrong
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Freightliner eCascadia vehicles. The e-axle planetary gear set may not be welded properly, which can cause the e-motor to detach from the final drive, resulting in an undetectable and sudden loss of drive power without the ability to restart the vehicle.
What can happen
An undetectable and sudden loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Dealers will inspect and replace the e-axle(s) as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 13, 2023. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL979.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
