What is wrong
IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, VEHICLE MAY LEAK FUEL WHEN ROLLED TO AN INCLINATION OF LESS THAN 45 DEGREES. ALTHOUGH A VENT VALVE IS PRESENT, THE VALVE CLOSES ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE ANGLE EXCEEDS 45 DEGREES. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY."
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
DEALER WILL REPLACE THE VENT HOSE WITH ONE OF AN IMPROVED DESIGN. THE VENT HOSE WILL BE REROUTED TO A POSITION ABOVE THE MAXIMUM FUEL LEVEL AND WILL DISCHARGE INTO THE FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
