What is wrong
ON CERTAIN TRUCKS, THE PINCH BOLT NUT OF THE YOKE CONNECTING THE STEERING GEARBOX AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAFT BACKED OUT.
What can happen
THIS COULD CAUSE THE YOKE AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHAFT TO SEPARATE WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND RETORQUE THE PINCH BOLT NUT AS NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MAY 7, 2004. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HINO AT 1-845-365-1400.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
