What is wrong
ON CERTAIN HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH IROS REAR AIR SUSPENSIONS, DURING ASSEMBLY, FOUR BOLTS AND NUTS HOLDING THE MAIN SUPPORT MEMBER BUSHING BAR PINS TO THE MAIN SUPPORT MEMBER HANGERS WERE INCORRECTLY TIGHTENED.
What can happen
THE NUTS COULD WORK LOOSE OR FALL OFF ALLOWING THE BOLTS TO FATIGUE AND FAIL THE CONNECTION BETWEEN A MAIN SUPPORT MEMBER BUSHING AND FRAME HANGER. SEPARATION OF THE MAIN SUPPORT MEMBER ASSEMBLY FROM THE FRAME MOUNTED HANGER BRACKET COULD RESULT INCREASING THE RISK OF SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
DEALERS WILL INSTALL FOUR NEW NUTS AND BOLTS AND TIGHTEN TO SPECIFICATION. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 15, 2002. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
