What is wrong
Mack Trucks, Inc (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 CXU trucks manufactured February 4, 2011, to December 23, 2014, and equipped with an air release fifth wheel latch. The affected vehicles have a switch to release the fifth wheel latch that may invertently be pushed and cause the trailer to unintentionally disconnect from the tractor after the parking brake has been released.
What can happen
An inadvertent decoupling of the trailer from the tractor may increase the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will install a secondary action that operators will need to activate before the fifth wheel will release, free of charge. The recall began on May 6, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Mack's number for this recall is SC0390.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
