What is wrong
THE WRONG ATTACHMENT BOLTS WERE USED ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT. THIS DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO.209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES."
What can happen
CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: THE SEAT OCCUPANT WOULD SUFFER INCREASED RISK OF INJURY IF THE SAFETY BELT ANCHORAGE FAILED IN A SUDDEN STOP OR ACCIDENT.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE NONCOMPLYING 5/16" BOLTS FROM THE ANCHORAGES AND REPLACE THEM WITH 7/16" BOLTS.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
