What is wrong
Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain 2016-2020 BC1000XL, BC1200XL, BC1500, and AX19 brush chipper trailers. Incorrect lug nuts may have been installed, possibly resulting in the lug nuts loosening.
What can happen
If the lug nuts loosen while the vehicle is in motion, the wheel may detach and become a road hazard, or there may be a loss of control of the trailer. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
Vermeer will notify owners and dealers will provide replacement 17.5 wheel/tire assembly, new wheel maintenance safety sign, tire specification placard, and supplemental operators and maintenance manual with wheel maintenance instructions, free of charge. A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
