What is wrong
DUE TO INCORRECTLY INSTALLED MOUNTING BRACKETS, THE TWO CRASH BARRIERS, LOCATED ON THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDES AHEAD OF THE FRONT SEATS ON THE INVOLVED BUSES, DO NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION". THE BARRIERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO ABSORB A FORCE OF 12,000 INCH-LBS. THEY FALL SHORT BY 220 INCH-LBS.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
