What is wrong
NORTH AMERICAN BUS INDUSTRIES, INC. IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008 AND 2009 TRANSIT BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN NOVEMBER 1, 2008 AND SEPTEMBER 12, 2009. THE CABLE ASSEMBLY THAT SUPPLIES POWER FROM THE ALTERNATOR TO THE BATTERIES MAY HAVE A DEFECTIVELY CRIMPED TERMINAL WHICH COULD CAUSE IT TO OVERHEAT WHEN HIGH CURRENT PASSES THROUGH THE CABLE.
What can happen
THIS COULD RESULT IN COMPONENT DAMAGE AND A FIRE. THIS COULD ALSO RESULT IN A LOSS OF ELECTRICAL POWER AND ENGINE CONTROLS WHICH COULD RENDER THE VEHICLE STALLED IN A ROADWAY, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The fix
Recall repairs are free of charge.
NABI WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALER WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ANY DEFECTIVE CABLE ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 7, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NABI CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-888-424-5844.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
