Reportable crashes of trucks and buses: a death, an injury or a vehicle towed away. A crash record does not say who caused the crash. Recent months can still grow as late reports arrive. Out-of-service rate: the percent of roadside inspections that took the driver or the vehicle off the road until a serious problem was fixed. Carriers with few inspections have rates that swing a lot. Official public data, updated daily. Names are as registered.
DataPorium lists every active US trucking carrier with 10 or more power units, from official public data, with its fleet, drivers, safety rating, crashes and roadside inspection results over 24 months, and shows truck and bus crashes and inspections of all carriers by state and month, up to Sep 30, 2026. Each carrier has its own page that compares it with the average carrier nationwide and in its state.
A power unit is a truck, a tractor or a bus. Carriers report their fleet and drivers when they register and update them at least every two years. A reportable crash is one in which someone died, someone was hurt, or a vehicle had to be towed away; the record does not say who caused the crash, so a carrier's crash count is not a measure of fault. Crash rate here is crashes in 24 months per 100 power units.
At a roadside inspection an officer checks the driver, the vehicle or both. A serious problem puts the driver or the vehicle out of service until it is fixed. The out-of-service rate is the share of inspections that ended that way; carriers with few inspections have rates that swing a lot. The same numbers are in the DataPorium API (/trucking/carriers and /trucking/stats).
FedEx Express has the largest fleet among US carriers, with 138,481 power units and 129,131 drivers as reported, followed by UPS (112,321) and Ryder (59,883). Power units are trucks, tractors and buses.
147,835 reportable truck and bus crashes in Oct 2025 to Sep 2026: 3,566 with a death (3,932 people died), 53,676 with injuries and 90,593 where a vehicle was towed away. A crash record does not say who caused the crash.
Texas had the most truck and bus crashes in Oct 2025 to Sep 2026 (15,601), followed by Georgia (8,671) and California (7,885). Large states with busy freight routes have the most. The most fatal crashes: Texas (525).
23.6% of vehicle inspections in Oct 2025 to Sep 2026 found a problem serious enough to take the truck off the road until it was fixed, and 7.0% of driver inspections took the driver off duty. 43.5% of inspections found no violation at all.
2,223,079 active carriers were registered in October 2026, with 9.01 million power units and 9.58 million drivers. Most are small: 1,178,071 run a single truck, and 108,755 run 10 or more.
