What is wrong
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain model year 2017 E400 4Matic Coupe, E400 Convertible, E550 Coupe and E550 Convertible vehicles manufactured June 7, 2016, to September 8, 2016. On the affected vehicles, there may be insufficient clearance between the left catalytic converter and the composite underbody panel.

MBUSA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the underbody panel, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began December 2016. Owners may contact Mercedes customer service at 1-800-367-6372.

A recall means the maker found a safety problem and offers a free fix; it does not mean every unit has the problem. Units affected are as reported by the company. Popular models sell more and so have more recalls and complaints. Official public data; texts are shortened. A dealer can tell whether a single vehicle still needs the repair.
